Farm murders must become priority-crimes

Farm murders need to be declared priority crime

Feb 13 2012 – The Transvaal Agricultural Union of South Africa welcomes the fact that stock theft has been declared a priority crime in the Free State.  TAU SA is also appreciates the public outcry regarding the ongoing poaching of rhinos in South Africa.

However, another murder on a farm occurred in the Wakkerstroom area where an elderly woman, 71 year old Ingrid Niebuhr, was brutally murdered in her home.

“As glad as we are that some forms of crime, which are also related to agriculture, are declared priority crimes, we are concerned that farm murders are not regarded in the same light by government and police which it demands.  Mrs Niebuhr is no 1 555 on the TAU SA’s list of farm murders, and we are of the opinion that this number could even be higher,” says TAU SA’s President, Mr Louis Meintjes.

“We need some straight answers from government.  We have the right to know whether violent crimes on farms and agricultural small holdings are still regarded as priority crimes. We also like to know what special measures have been implemented to improve rural safety and to apprehend and prosecute criminals.

“We can have all the cattle which have been stolen returned to farms, and all the rhino’s can be protected, but if our farmers are to be slaughtered as is the case, the other successes would be meaningless. Government has to get its priorities right.  We cannot continue to lose our farmers at this rate.  Seven farmers that we know of have been murdered since the beginning of this year.  Crime cannot be allowed to continue like this,” said Mr Meintjes.

In January this year, TAU SA has requested an urgent meeting with the Commissioner of Police. “We have not heard from his office ever since. We will do a follow up on this request as we cannot leave this there,” said Mr Meintjes. http://www.tlu.co.za

Shaiden Trickett , 7 shot, miraculously escapes being hit in the head by a bullet from armed-robber gang;  sister Astyn, 5 traumatised

Picture by Felix Dlangamandla, Foto24: - 2012-02-13 Seven-year-old Shaiden Trickett lost a pinkie when he was shot by an armed gang in Meyerton while seated in his mom's car with his five-year-old sister Astyn.

The children are badly traumatised, writes Naspers journalist Riata Nel. The children were waiting with their mom Jean for their grandmother who'd gone to shop at Pick 'n Pay in Meyerton when they heard crashing noises, a gun shot - and then Shaiden was shot. Mrs Trickett said she saw security guards running past. Apparently a gang had just robbed a jewellery store and fled when shots were fired. A bullet hit Shaiden just as he turned his head towards the noise while seated on the back seat of the car. "If he hadn't turned back his head after hearing the noise, the bullet would have gone through his head or a shoulder,’ said his mom.  Indeed the boy was twice-lucky: paramedic Riaan Jordaan just happened to be nearby -- and immediately helped to stop the copious bleeding from his hand. The bullet damaged a bone and most of his pinkie had to be amputated.

The children spoke to a trauma-specialist Sunday. "They got a bad fright',' said their mom. "But he's my superhero,' quipped the mom. "He tried to cath bullets with his hand.'
The gang 's get away car a Nissan Hardbody, was located abandoned at the Kookrus railway station.

SA environment, population’s health in critical meltdown: WEF warns
13 Feb 2012 - The World Economic Forum warns SA’s eco-system is deteriorating so fast after 2 decades under ANC-hegemony that it’s placed at 128th worst  out of 132 countries surveyed…
SA's once so brilliant nature reserves, water-system, agriculture and fisheries have deteriorated nearly the fastest in the world under the ANC terrorist regime since 1992: and things will get even worse. The fraudulent regime insists on building a series of nuclear reactors along its pristine coastline…
The World Economic Forum announced its findings of the current state of 132 countries’ eco-systems since 1992: and South Africa has deteriorated so badly that it is placed at 128th place. Iraq is the worst, Switzerland looks after its environment and its people’s health the best in the world. These were the findings of scientist-teams at the Yale and Columbia universities in cooperation with the World Economic Forum.
They compared 132 countries' eco-systems and human-health situations in 2011 with those same countries in 1992.
The report warns that the population's health, its air- and water-quality, its biodiversity, its ecosystems' fuctioning, its agriculture- and fishing industries all have 'seriously deteriorated'.
Yet with its population’s health at such horrific risks from its rapidly-deteriorating eco-system, the ANC regime still insists on pressing ahead with its disastrous R1-trillion-costing plan to build a string of nuclear power plants along its once so pristine coastline – starting in Jeffrey’s Bay – the world-famous ‘endless wave’ recorded in the surfers’ cult-movie ‘Endless Summer…’  The WEF analysis can be downloaded by first registering at:
