Woman arrested: Medupi plant bomb threat

Woman held over Medupi power-plant bomb threat

http://bit.ly/m1BO8K  June 15 2011 - Bloemfontein, Free State- A 44-year-old woman was arrested in connection with two bomb threats targetting the ANC’s most prestigious building project: the R80-billion Medupi power station in Limpopo. This is only the latest of a long list of problems there: Medupi is seen as a massive propaganda-coup by the ANC-regime: which is eager to prove that  its  black-economic-empowerment programme, barring skilled whites from the labour market, can be a success.

Medupi’s construction is fraught with frequent labour-strikes by black workers on the prestigious ANC-propaganda project; and also featured deeply mysterious assassination-style murder of Afrikaner building contractor Koos Daffue.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the unnamed woman was arrested on Monday in Bloemfontein in the Free State, after allegedly calling in two bomb threats in the past week. The first threat was made on Saturday and the last on Monday, he said. In both incidents, police were called in to search the area and workers at the power station had to be evacuated. The power plant was closed on those days and pedestrians were re-directed around the area.

On May 10 2011, a protest by about 500 workers led to the closure of the site after black South African workers torched vehicles, protesting against the hiring of skilled foreign workers. Medupi is a new dry-cooled coal-fired power station being built by Eskom at the cost of R80-billion, scheduled to be fully operational by 2015 - but its construction has been hazardous - especially for its white contractors.

Afrikaner building-contractor at Medupi, Koos Daffue, ambushed and killed execution-style on 3 August 2010. Nothing was robbed.Daffue Koos farmer died in hail of bullets in ambush Aug 3 2010 Ellisras Black South African workers at the prestigious ANC-project want no ‘foreigners’ on the site…

Daffue Koos CONTRACTOR MEDUFI POWER STATION EXECUTED NOTHING ROBBEDAug3 2010 Ellisras  He was ambushed by a large gang of armed black males outside Ellisras. The Solidarity trade unionist was enroute to work in the morning when he was ambushed who fired on the unarmed man and wounded him.  The injured Afrikaner building-contractor tried to flee in his vehicle but crashed 500 meters down the road. His attackers then walked to the crashed bakkie and executed Koos Fafue at point-blank range... nothing was robbed. The murder's motive has never been explained. It's not known whether anybody has ever been arrested.

Historic, well-run Boer-cattlefarm ‘Naauw Ontkomen’ confiscated to build Medupi power-plant:

Two years earlier, ESKOM secured a 530-million Euro loan for new boilers at the Medupi power station  with seven European banks. The loan was needed to buy the foreign-made components for the new R80-billion Medupi Power Station’s boilers at Ellisras/Lephalale, in Limpopo Province.  The ESKOM press release also noted that the 883-hectare power station site  was expropriated from the traditional Boer-cattle farm “Naauw Ontkomen”. The operational life of the station is 50 years. “Medupi will be the first-baseload power station to come online (in 2015) since the construction of Majuba Power Station in the late eighties.” said Eskom Chief Executive, Jacob Maroga at the August 2007 groundbreaking ceremony -- adding: “This project, together with the commissioning of the new Komati, Grootvlei and Camden Power Stations, as well as the Ingula pumped-storage scheme, will enhance reliable electricity supply.”
