Johan Nortje, SAPS warrant-officer murdered 17 Jan 2011 – three men arrested

Feb 5 2011 - Three men suspected to be involved in the killing warrant-officer Johan Nortje, a dedicated investigator into the smuggling of goods and drugs through Durban harbour, appeared in the DurbanMagistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 January 2011. The three men were remanded in custody until 8 February 2011. One suspect, Philani Dlamini, 33, was shot dead in Umlazi township during a shootout with the arresting police.

Nortje wo Johan executed Jan172011 MAYDON WHARF FRAUD INVESTIGATOR DURBAN KZN Warrant officer Nortje (51), was shot dead in the driveway of his Monclair home on 17 January 2011. He was in his vehicle  when he was shot twice in the chest, and died instantly. The suspects fled the scene on foot. A murder case was opened by the Durban Organised Crime Unit and their investigation led to the arrest of three men in the Umlazi and Maphumulo areas on Friday, 21 January 2011. The fourth suspect, Philani Dlamini (33) was shot and killed in the Umlazi township during the shootout with the police. Charged were Mandlenkosi Chiliza (21), Nkosinathi Ntuli (27) and Bheki Khuzwayo (44), on murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges. The police are still investigating the motive for the policeman’s killing. Source  Capt TEB.
