Roodepoort North, Georginia: cops sweep streets for family-attacking gangs

These house robberies have increased in the area.  (source: Tihan van der Walt) The SAPS and block watches met on Mouton Road around 6pm and spread out from there.  According to Roodepoort SAPS constable Vincent Mashiteng, they have been informed about an increase in crime in this, and surrounding areas, during or between 6pm and 9pm. "Tonight we will patrol the streets to increase visibility and if we do see crime, we can  arrest the suspects," says Mashiteng. The patrolling parties did not come across any house-robbery cases, but they did enter several shebeens and suspicious-looking properties. Police also did random searches on people on the street. The streets of the entire Roodepoort North and Georginia were filled with patrolling cars and criminals stood no chance of operating during this time. The operation lasted until about 8.30pm, after which the patrolling parties met back at the starting point.
