Large army convoys hit SA roads

--------
LARGE MILITARY EXERCISES IN SA from JAN 30 TO FEB 24

In what is claimed to be a ‘large joint interdepartmental
military exercise’ the SA national defence force is warning motorists to get out of the way of their military convoys enroute to Lohathla in the North Cape from Sunday, Jan 30 to Feb 24 2011.

-----------
More troop convoys also will leave from their military bases from early-Monday, said their statement, broadcast early on Sunday morning on the Afrikaans “Radio Sonder Grense”. http://www.rsg.co.za/nuusbulletins.asp#time0800

‘Salaries boosted, many new recruits, air force fly-overs above Pretoria…
It’s not clear why there is such a sudden build-up of the SANDF this year: they have boosted military salaries considerably, inducted 4,000 new recruits in their ranks and the air force also held previously unannounced exercises over Pretoria the past weekend, claiming that this was done as part of their ‘family open day’ programme.
The SA military also recently helped evacuate stranded residents in Upington and Keimoes after unprecedented flooding – which has made northern Cape roads nearly unpassable in many places. This may hamper military operations…
Also, due to the floods, the Limpopo region also has suffered widespread structural damage to their roads-system and food-production on many farms has come to a standstill, with a great many crop-fields flooded and the crops destroyed. Several large poultry-farms lin Limpopo with production of 40,000 fryers a week, also were hard-hit by the flooding as feed-supplies could not reach them across the damaged roads.
