Limpopo province flooded by millions of illegal Africans

Freedom Front opposition party wants State of Emergency to close down the border… however Zimbabwe opens a passport office to help its illegal migrants with SA documentation

25 November, 2010 - The Limpopo province's leader for the opposition Freedom Front Plus, Mr Louis Trichardt, warns that a State of Emergency must be declared to try and limit the extremely dangerous security situation in the overcrowded province. “Literally millions of illegal strangers now live in our overcrowded Limpopo province because of the lack of border-control…’ he warned.

He wrote this warning in an open letter to ANC-premier Cassel Matahle regarding the latest farm-murders of defenceless citizens. He wrote that the triple-massacre had left the community horrified and angered. Mr Pieter Blomerus Van der Lith, a former Freedom Front municipal candidate, wife Henna and their worker Edward Ndou were found murdered on November 15 2010.  Police believe that the worker was shot dead after he had cooperated with the murderers. SAPS spokeswoman Lt.kol. Ronel Otto said the triple-massacre was mysterious as nothing appeared to be stolen. Mr Ndou was found shot to death in his cottage.  Mr Van der Lith ‘s Toyota Land Cruiser was parked 20 metres from his body – which was tied up to water-pipes leading to the farm dam.  He was tortured to death. His wife was shot to death inside their farm-house. Nothing seemed to be robbed: Mr Van der Lith’s personal belongings also were still inside his vehicle…

The triple-murders occurred about two weeks after the murders of Johan and Annelise Greyvensteyn of Musina/Messina on 4 November. Their tortured bodies were found inside their bakkie on their smallholding.  The Transvaal Agricultural Union’s spokeswoman Ms Marie Helm  said they were deeply shocked about the murders. Farmers were helping police in attempts to track the killers. Picture: The Pietersburg business community also suffers from the crime-tsunami in the province: For instance, local businesman Peet Pretorius was amongst the many businesses which suffer from the large numbers of armed criminals now roaming the once so peaceful provincial border town. He was attacked by three armed black men in his shop, who fired shots at him and tried to rob him. The men then fled into the apartment building opposite his shop in Schoeman Street and then simply disappeared without a trace. Mr Pretorius still pointed out their trail to the apparently non-plussed SAPS officer who arrived to investigate the robbery.

Murdered farmer was Freedom Front municipal candidate:

Mr Trichardt said that the late Mr Van der Lith had been a FF-candidate during the previous municipal election and planned to represent the party again next year. "He was a respected and valued person in our society,' said Mr Trichardt. "These gruesome and cruel murders are similar to the 46 murders in the same region. This is due to the total lack of border-control allowing the untrammeled arrival of undocumented foreigners from other parts of Africa. Literally millions of strangers now live in an already overcrowded Limpopo province due to this lack of border-control. And if these murderers are found they are charged with ordinary crimes instead of terrorism. Moreover, such illegal criminals even receive free legal counsel from our State-resources, while innocent victims and their families have to pay the price.' He urged the Limpopo premier to announce a State of Emergency for the province regarding the severe security situation'.

Zim-government sets up ‘temporary’ passport office in Pietersburg to help illegal border-crossers get legal SA documentation:

61% of the officially-registered 364.638 asylum-applications in South Africa in 2009 were not processed within a year: refugees wait up to 4 years in squallid squatter camps where they receive free water and other municipal services while ‘waiting for answers from Home Office.” South Africa ‘s 260 registered squatter camps in 1994 have mushroomed to more than 2,700 by November 2010 and millions of these illegal Africans resort to crime to stay alive. Shortly thereafter, the authorities announced that 'Zimbabweans who want to regularise their status in South Africa no longer needed to travel to Makhado or Musina to do so as an office for that purpose was opened just outside Pietersburg in the Ivydale area. With the 31 December deadline for Zimbabweans lurking around the corner the Zimbabwean Embassy has temporarily moved its operations from Tshwane to Polokwane to enable Zimbabweans to get their passports easier because of the large number of people in need of documentation."

South Africa's Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma held discussions with representatives of the "Zimbabwe Stakeholder Forum"  to review the process of the documentation of all Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa by the end of December 2010.

According to information no passports will be issued at Cosatu House in Johannesburg for the time being.

• Mr Bertus Venter, Immigrations Officer at Home Affairs told Pietersburg/Polokwane Observer that the change in location is “only temporary and aimed at ensuring that as many Zimbabweans as possible can access services for passport applications within the set time frame. “

Zimbabwe’s Pietersburg office is located in Fairly Street, Ivydale, adjacent to the N1 South. It is claimed that this ‘Special Dispensation and moratorium on deportations, as per agreement between the governments of South Africa and Zimbabwe will come to an end on 31 December 2010.

• "This process is intended to regularise qualifying Zimbabwean nationals with permits in terms of the Immigration Act,” Venter said.
• The work, study and business permits that will be issued to all qualifying Zimbabwean nationals through this process will be made available free of charge.The requirements for all these permits are valid Zimbabwean passports, proof of study, work, self employment or business.
