140 families attacked by armed gangs each day…

Most targetted in the country by black armed robber-gangs are the white families living in Sandton, Honeydew, Weirdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale, Booysens…

AfrikanersUnderAttackInPierreVanRyneveld_suburb_Pretoria2009 2009-10-09 Gauteng residents, especially white families in Sandton, Honeydew, Weirdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens, have twice as much chance of being victims in armed house robberies than households in other parts of the country.

Picture: the severity of the armed attacks against Pretoria families was brought home recently by this front page of the Pretoria news, warning that the ‘women, kids were under threat’ from the armed-attack gangs in the Pierre van Ryneveld smallholdings.

Virginia Keppler, investigative and crime journalist at Beeld newspaper, attended the Institute for Security Studies’ crime-seminar on Thursday which analysed the latest published crime statistics – and quoted Gareth Newham, described as a ‘community safety advisor in the Gauteng legislature as saying that Gauteng families ran the highest risk in the country of being attacked, robbed, raped and murdered by armed robber-gangs targetting their homes.

White families in six Gauteng suburbs are the most targetted in armed home robberies:

And now it’s also been placed on record for the first time, namely that those suburbs which are mostly occupied by whites, whether working class such as those in Booysens, or wealthier ones in Sandton, or the mainly Afrikaans subsistence-smallholders in Honeydew,  are targetted the most: Sandton, Honeydew/Randburg, Weirdabrug at Pretoria, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens are at the top of the police list of places attacked the most. More than 8,100 armed robberies were carried out in Gauteng province alone in the reporting period of March 2008 to March 2009.

Each day in SA: 140 armed robberies of at-home families…

Newham said the latest crime statistics show that, between April 1 2008 and March 31 2009, there were 140 home robberies per day in South Africa.

"Firearms were also the most common choice of weapon used in the criminal activity, also in vehicle hijackings, cash-in-transit heists and business robberies. “

And there’s even more bad news: ".. And criminals won't stop until they are caught, since that's their livelihood," said Newham.

Nkoshilo Seimela of the police's research and statistics unit said that according to the top 20 police stations where the most home robberies are reported, 13 are in Gauteng, five in KwaZulu-Natal, one in North West and one in the Eastern Cape. Six of the top 10 police stations are in Gauteng (the white smallholdings/suburbs of Sandton, Honeydew, Wierdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens) and four in KwaZulu-Natal.

  • Out of each 100,000 persons living in Gauteng, 77 run the chance of being robbed with their defenceless families inside their own homes this year, robberies which are carried out mostly at gunpoint by black gangs averaging five members each, and who are described as ‘extremely dangerous and willing to kill’.

Boshoff Henri Institute Security Studies SANDF collapsing he warns Aug 4 2009

Picture left: Henri Boshoff, researcher at the ISS, also warned on August 4 2009 that the SA National Defence Force was ‘collapsing’. With these latest crime-statistics, it’s also becoming crystal-clear that the SA Police Services also are no longer able to protect its citizens even inside their own homes.             SADNF in collapse

However, another senior researcher at the ISS,  Dr Johan Burger – a former SA Police Commissioner – was still actively discouraging these besieged families from leaving South Africa altogether to try and protect them from being raped, mutilated or murdered inside their own homes.

Go to other provinces… he says… "If people want to emigrate, they should rather go to other provinces where home robberies are less common. Don't leave the country."  According to him, the safest province is the Northern Cape, followed by the Free State and Limpopo.

Of course especially the Northern Cape province has several drawbacks for large-scale settlement for white families fleeing from the armed attackers targetting their families: its nearly non-existent surface-water supplies, its bone-dry ‘farming’ conditions turning especially crop-farming into a major venture;   it’s near-total lack of any sustainable industries -- and the fact that most of the region forms a part of the Kalahari transfrontier national park with neighbouring Botswana.

House robberies up in all provinces
Burger had even worse news, warning that  “unless a method is found to curb home robberies, vehicle hijackings and business robberies, these crimes will continue to increase.

Burger: "It makes an impact on people's lives, on deciding whether to should stay in the country or move, and also whether they should buy property here. It also has a psychological impact on people's lives."

He said the number of house robberies have increased in all nine provinces. The only decrease was in hijackings in the Northern Cape and North West

Marloth Park resort attacker guilty of murder

His gang carried out reign of terror in Kruger Park tourist resort…

Keyser Fanie murdered in front of family Marloth Park resort 29Dec20072009-10-09 -- Buks Viljoen – Rapport newspaper writes that Shadrack Ndunkula, 18, of Mozambique was found guilty in the Graskop law court of the murder of Pretoria family man Fanie Keyser, 47, left, gunned down on 29 December 2007 in front of his family at their holiday cottage Marloth Park at the border of the Kruger National Wildlife Reserve.

The court found Ndunkula guilty of shooting down and killing the Afrikaner production-engineer.  A 12-year-old Mozambiquan comrade who was hunted down by a police team while the gang was fleeing, was shot dead when he shot at police, another gang-member, who claimed to be 14-years-old at the time, is also in a youth institution awaiting trial.

Keyser worked as a production-engineer at a pharmaceutical company in Pretoria and had taken his family on vacation at Marloth Park – which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa, where the wild animals even stroll in the streets. Marloth Park was plunged into a campaign of terror by Ndunkula and his comrades – but other gangs were also operating there and cooperating: He admitted in court this week that he had formed part of a terrorist-gang which was carrying out regular attacks against the occupants of the tourist cottages.

That year alone in this small community on the crossroads of Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe there were 25 crime-related deaths, 64 armed robberies of eleven families, and a great many armed attacks against local hotels, restaurants and other tourism-enterprises. There were 169 breakins in homes and 80 at holiday resorts, and three tourists were kidnapped and exchanged for large amounts of cash…At adjacent Buckbuckridge/Bosbokrant – another popular tourist destation for foreigners, things were even more violent due to the  armed crime gangs  report: http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_1578840,00.html

Fitzgerald Alison and her family attacked in Marloth Park reign of terror 2008He was also found guilty yesterday of two attempted murders on June 2008, when he and his twelve-year-old clansman, also from Mozambique, attacked the Fitzgerald tourist couple at Marloth park. Allison Fitzgerald, 46, pictured left just after the attack, testified that her left ringfinger’s tip was severed and her hair singed when Ndunkula shot directly at her with an AK-47. The Ak47 bullets were found lodged in the cottage’s wall right behind her on this picture.  Nick and Alison FitzGerald and their daughters Niamh, 6 and Nickita, 4, were badly traumatised by the event, when the armed youths sudden appeared, started shooting at them without saying anything, made no demands at all, and just disappeared. again… http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2347132,00.html

In December 2007 police also arrested seven armed black men, all from Mozambique, who were subsequently found guilty of murdering a British tourist at Marloth Park, Rudolph Harris, 50. They are now in prison. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2244933,00.html

Lied about his age: Ndunkula initially was tried as a minor because he’d told police he was seventeen at the time of his arrest. However he admitted in court that he was eighteen years old at that time – and he then was tried as an adult whose name also was allowed to be published under South African law. Ndunkula admitted that he was part of the gang which was carrying out attacks on the holiday resorts – but denied that he ‘d ever ‘handled the AK47’ himself.

However during cross-examination he denied even knowing that there was an AK47 involved in the attack. Judge Pierre Rabie said in his judgment summary that he rejected Ndunkula’s version of events ‘specifically because he was constantly contradicting himself in his testimony.’ report of original attack in Beeld:  http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2252967,00.html

Rabie found Ndunkula guilty of one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of armed robbery, and counts of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Sentencing was postponed to March 29 2010 while he remains in police custody.  It’s not known why there is such a long time lapse but South African law courts have been running with huge backlogs. http://www.beeld.com/Content/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/1928/773eb62144c34e4caa7c629705c21b0f/09-10-2009-09-25/18-jarige_skuldig_aan_Marlothpark-moord_

However not all of Marloth Park ‘s many armed robberies have now been solved with this particular capture. There still are unsolved attacks – those carried out on 16 january 2008 when the owner of the adjacent Crocodile Kruger Safari Lodge hotel were attacked, Christopher Conrad Fouche. They took his laptop, three mobiles, a camera, his wallet and R500 in cash.

MarlothParkPoliceCommandoVolunteerPatrolsCapturedSeveralArmedGangsAttackingTourists2007_8Pictures: These attacks in one of the best-known international tourist regions of South Africa, also led to the creation of a highly-motivated, albeit poorly paid group of heavily-armed police volunteer-commandos who started  patrolling the private Marloth Park region as well as the neighbouring holiday camps on quad motorbikes.

MarlothParkPoliceCommandoVolunteersProtectTouristsKrugerParkRegionThe oldest volunteer was a 71-year-old former police superintendent, the youngest was this sturdy Boer on the left, only 19.  Armed with AK47s and Uzis, they captured this youth gang and the crime rate in this area has gone done considerably since then as word got around…

Van Niekerk family attacked: Other attacked visitors still sitting with unsolved cases are crime-victims Johannes van Niekerk, 37 and his wife, also attacked in March 2008 by three males described as ‘black youths’ in broad day light, each of which was carrying an AK47. The couple was tied up and fortunately not otherwise injured, and moreover, the armed youths stole very little of value, only R500 cash and an old, rusty pistol. The gang fled in the family’s white Land Rover Discovery which was located shortly thereafter through the GPS-tracking system in the tiny village of Mgobodzi, located just inside the Swaziland border. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_1578840,00.html

Lotz family: On March 2008 three black men with pistols who ‘spoke broken English’attacked the Lotz family and threatened to kill them. Their son Pierre, 15, his classmate Ruan Janse van Rensburg, 16 were all present in the holiday cottage. They were kicked brutally and tied up with torn bedsheets. “One man was very aggressive and constantly threatened to kill us,’ said Mrs Lotz. They tried to hijack the family car but when they couldn’t start it, they fled into the bush, one on a stolen child’s bicycle, the other two walking. They’d only stolen a mobile phone, a few bits of clothing and some bottles of alcohol. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2281495,00.html

Tourists not nearly as safe as we want to believe…

Theunis Chris Belgian Trucker murdered visiting his son in Equestria ChildrenPleadedNotToKillHimDec2008Dutch woman raped in luxury hotel Tourist in South Africa aren’t  nearly as safe as the resorts’ brochures would want visitors from abroad to believe. For instance on 11 March 2008, at the ‘heavy-secured’ Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West near Cape Town, a Dutch woman was brutally beaten up and raped inside her own hotel room. The man, a casual employee, had waited for her in ambush and attacked her when she returned to her room after spending the evening with the rest of her tour group. Erik Jansen, managing director at the hotel, refused to comment other than to say that the hotel ‘emphasizes the peaceful surroundings’ of the hotel and that they had a ‘very good security system.’ http://www.capetowntravel.com/images_new/accomm/hotels_lrg/lrg_1_772.jpg

Flemish dad murdered in Equestria: Picture: In September 2008, the Flemish-language press ran this front-page article on the left about the cruel, senseless murder of 44-year-old Chris Theunis, a Belgian trucker from Berginge in Flanders, son of a poor coal-miner who’d had a hard life behind him – and had saved for years so that he could travel to  to South Africa to celebrate his son David’s s 18th birthday with him in Equestria near Pretoria. The youth lived with his divorced mother and maternal grandparents in South Africa. Theunis was in SA only two days when the Equestria home was attacked by a large armed gang of black killers while David’s schoolfriends were celebrating his birthday. They shot down the unarmed Belgian father in cold blood -- and despite all the pleading from the children not to let him bleed to death, the gang kept on for two hours, helping themselves to alcohol, cigarettes, and the food readied for the party while ignoring the kids. They left only with a laptop.
