140 families attacked by armed gangs each day…

Most targetted in the country by black armed robber-gangs are the white families living in Sandton, Honeydew, Weirdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale, Booysens…

AfrikanersUnderAttackInPierreVanRyneveld_suburb_Pretoria2009 2009-10-09 Gauteng residents, especially white families in Sandton, Honeydew, Weirdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens, have twice as much chance of being victims in armed house robberies than households in other parts of the country.

Picture: the severity of the armed attacks against Pretoria families was brought home recently by this front page of the Pretoria news, warning that the ‘women, kids were under threat’ from the armed-attack gangs in the Pierre van Ryneveld smallholdings.

Virginia Keppler, investigative and crime journalist at Beeld newspaper, attended the Institute for Security Studies’ crime-seminar on Thursday which analysed the latest published crime statistics – and quoted Gareth Newham, described as a ‘community safety advisor in the Gauteng legislature as saying that Gauteng families ran the highest risk in the country of being attacked, robbed, raped and murdered by armed robber-gangs targetting their homes.

White families in six Gauteng suburbs are the most targetted in armed home robberies:

And now it’s also been placed on record for the first time, namely that those suburbs which are mostly occupied by whites, whether working class such as those in Booysens, or wealthier ones in Sandton, or the mainly Afrikaans subsistence-smallholders in Honeydew,  are targetted the most: Sandton, Honeydew/Randburg, Weirdabrug at Pretoria, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens are at the top of the police list of places attacked the most. More than 8,100 armed robberies were carried out in Gauteng province alone in the reporting period of March 2008 to March 2009.

Each day in SA: 140 armed robberies of at-home families…

Newham said the latest crime statistics show that, between April 1 2008 and March 31 2009, there were 140 home robberies per day in South Africa.

"Firearms were also the most common choice of weapon used in the criminal activity, also in vehicle hijackings, cash-in-transit heists and business robberies. “

And there’s even more bad news: ".. And criminals won't stop until they are caught, since that's their livelihood," said Newham.

Nkoshilo Seimela of the police's research and statistics unit said that according to the top 20 police stations where the most home robberies are reported, 13 are in Gauteng, five in KwaZulu-Natal, one in North West and one in the Eastern Cape. Six of the top 10 police stations are in Gauteng (the white smallholdings/suburbs of Sandton, Honeydew, Wierdabrug, Midrand, Douglasdale and Booysens) and four in KwaZulu-Natal.

  • Out of each 100,000 persons living in Gauteng, 77 run the chance of being robbed with their defenceless families inside their own homes this year, robberies which are carried out mostly at gunpoint by black gangs averaging five members each, and who are described as ‘extremely dangerous and willing to kill’.

“Please don’t emigrate – just go to another province…”SAArmyinCrisisAug22009SundayTribune

Picture left: Henri Boshoff, researcher at the ISS, also warned on August 4 2009 that the SA National Defence Force was ‘collapsing’. With these latest crime-statistics, it’s also becoming crystal-clear that the SA Police Services also are no longer able to protect its citizens even inside their own homes.             SADNF in collapse

However, another senior researcher at the ISS,  Dr Johan Burger – a former SA Police Commissioner – was still actively discouraging these besieged families from leaving South Africa altogether to try and protect them from being raped, mutilated or murdered inside their own homes.

Go to other provinces… he says… "If people want to emigrate, they should rather go to other provinces where home robberies are less common. Don't leave the country."  According to him, the safest province is the Northern Cape, followed by the Free State and Limpopo.

Of course especially the Northern Cape province has several drawbacks for large-scale settlement for white families fleeing from the armed attackers targetting their families: its nearly non-existent surface-water supplies, its bone-dry ‘farming’ conditions turning especially crop-farming into a major venture;   it’s near-total lack of any sustainable industries -- and the fact that most of the region forms a part of the Kalahari transfrontier national park with neighbouring Botswana.

House robberies up in all provinces
Burger had even worse news, warning that  “unless a method is found to curb home robberies, vehicle hijackings and business robberies, these crimes will continue to increase.

Burger: "It makes an impact on people's lives, on deciding whether to should stay in the country or move, and also whether they should buy property here. It also has a psychological impact on people's lives."

He said the number of house robberies have increased in all nine provinces. The only decrease was in hijackings in the Northern Cape and North West
