Hired VW Polo at airport, disappeared enroute to Cradock…
September 19 2009 at 03:33PM -- Twenty-four-year-old Nicole Renaye Harris, en-route to Cradock in the Eastern Cape has gone missing, police said on Saturday. Police inspector Elmarie van Eck said Ms Harris had arrived at the Johannesburg International Airport in Gauteng on Tuesday and had hired a silver Volkswagen Polo there.
Police did not distribute a photograph of the missing woman – even though this would have been of great help in tracking her down.
“She was meant to drive to Cradock in the Eastern Cape. When she did not reach her destination, her friends filed a missing persons report.”
- The hired car could not be traced because it did not have a tracking device.
"So far we have no other leads, but we suspect she could be somewhere in the Western Cape," said Inspector Van Eck. On her last phone call to her friends, the missing woman said she ‘had just passed a Bloemfontein road sign’. Her friends told police that Ms Harris suffered from low blood pressure.

Two kidnapped women rescued from hijackers’ car-boot in Manandi nature reserve, Kwa-Msane, Kwa-Zulu
On 15 September 2009 at about 18:00, a 23-year-old hijacker of two women was shot and killed by the police after a high-speed car-chase, while his accomplice was arrested in the Ophondweni reserve, Kwamsane. The two kidnapped women were rescued from the car-boot of their car and taken to Bay Hospital because they had been injured during the car-crash.
Two women working for an insurance company were stopped by two men near the Manandi reserve along the N2. The men forced the women to climb into the car-boot. However, a motorist happened to spot a human hand from the car-boot when he was driving behind the men. He contacted the police who chased after the vehicle.
The hijackers then fired shots at the police -- who retaliated. The driver was fatally wounded. The hijacked vehicle came to a stop in the bushes. The unnamed women were injured in the accident and taken to the Bay Hospital for treatment. The second suspect tried to make a run for the nearby bushes, but he was caught by the police.
- The police searched the man and found four suspected stolen cellphones and dagga in his posession. The suspect was then detained at the Kwamsane police cells.
The police charged the arrested suspect with hijacking and kidnapping, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of dagga. He has appeared in the Kwamsane Magistrates' Court on 16 September 2009. The women’s names were not released by the Police and no other details are known about them at all. Report by Captain J. RHINO HORN DEALERS SENTENCED IN EAST LONDON

Quinton Els, 35, arrested in East London for trying to sell two rhino horns to a member of the Organised Crime Unit that day, was convicted and sentenced in the East London Magistrates' Court on 17 September 2009.
