Feb 20 2009 – Cecile Potgieter of Humansdorp murdered: trial of gardener starts Oct 19 2009
JEFFREY’S BAY -- Mrs. Cecile Potgieter, a business woman of Humansdorp, was murdered in her home at about 10:40am on 20/02/2009 in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape.
A man who sometimes worked in her garden was discovered by police that afternoon in the roof of her house - he had her laptop, camera, cellphone and a knife with him.
An unnamed 16 year old white girl was also victimised in the same attack - and she is in Place of Safety.
The arrested man, Franklin Stuurman had been in a police cell for two weeks before he was released on bail despite the extremely vicious nature displayed in this crime. Stuurman’s trial starts on October 19 2009.
Her sister-in-law Narita Nortier writes that a Facebook group has been started in memory of Cecile Potgieter. “I wrote a letter to the newspapers and and our head of state, but had no response,’ she writes Adriana Stuijt at Censorbugbear-reports.blogspot.com
