2008 CASES DETAILED:

20080915 Christopher van Rensburg, 33, Nigel, beaten to death by black cops in cells: - mom Theresa Mercia van der Merwe awarded R390,000 compensation Aug 15 2008 - PRETORIA HIGH COURT -- The mother of Christopher van Rensburg, 33, arrested in Nigel in September 2005 with another man in trumped-up 'drunkenness' charges, was beaten to death by black cops in the local police cells. Van Rensburg had tried to stop these cops from beating up his friend. Forensic examinations determined that Van Rensburg had been sober, as had been his friend. Police brutality costs the SA taxpayers R120-million paid out in compensation claims like this last year. Yesterday the Pretoria High Court granted compensation to his mother Mrs Theresa Mercia van der Merwe, 53. The Minister admitted in the documents before the court, that actions by State-officials had caused Van Rensburg's death. He had died of multiple injuries inside the police cell while he was beaten up - in front of many witnesses. The police who participated and witnessed the beating also refused to obtain medical care for the prisoner in their care and thus also contributed to his willful death, allowing him to just die untended from his injuries, the Police Minister has admitted. Mother Mrs van der Merwe, a nursing assistant at the Life Suikerbos-clinic in Heidelberg, submitted in the court application that Van Rensburg supported her and other family members financially. Her daughter Theresa, 24, is brain-damaged after a car accident and both women need support. The court agreed that 'due to the illegal actions by the police, causing Van Rensburg's death, Mrs van der Merwe and her daughter have been denied the financial support by the deceased. She has also suffered great emotional shock and has been deeply traumatised by her son's death.' The UNNAMED police officers were not charged with murder, it's not known if they lost their jobs: http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2376934,00.html

20080629 Afrikaner pilot Attie van Schalkwyk robbed at gunpoint by two Pretoria-West cops with a R5 military-assault rifle...
June 29 2008 PRETORIA. Commercial pilot Attie van Schalkwyk, 32, of Hartbeespoort was pulled over on Church Street in Pretoria-West enroute home from the Johannesburg airport near Kempton Park at 10pm after returning from a flight. The two uniformed police officers inside the police vehicle then pointed a R5 military assault rifle at him, accused him of 'drunken driving', said he was arrested -- and then forced him to withdraw large amounts of cash at two cash points nearby which they took for themselves. They took no breathaliser- nor blood-tests. The Afrikaner pilot ran for his life, jumping out at a stop-sign on a turn-off to the black township of Atteridgeville he was being driven to. He and his wife have now placed formal robbery charges at the Hartbeespoort police station and the Police Inspectorate has also been informed. Investigations are ongoing against the two Pretoria-West police officers, who claim the Afrikaner pilot had been 'drunk'. However he and his attorney Wilhelm Mundt provided legal proof that he had been sober at the time. The two UNNAMED police officers who had robbed him at gunpoint, claimed that they were 'investigating a charge of drunk driving' against the Afrikaner pilot, but took neither blood- nor breathalyser tests during his 'arrest'. Van Schalkwyk says he now fears for his life and believes the Pretoria-West cops and their comrades would not hesitate to take revenge.

20080316 Dutch author Tommy Wierenga records 'Jack-booted state-violence' during Stellenbosch police raids targetting Afrikaner students.
http://www.depers.nl/buitenland/181140/De-jonge-democratie.html March 16 2008 - The author of Dutch bestsellers such as "Joe Speedboot' and "RTL Boulevard' writes in the Dutch magazine Privé, published by the Telegraaf newspaper: http://www.telegraaf.nl/multimedia/archive/00164/tommy_164858d.jpg

"The (SA police) show up with automatic guns and shoot into the ceiling - three shots altogether -- and say: "Lie down sir, lie down', Wierenga told the publication. "Those secret agents stormed the student bar filled with revellers as if they were terrorists. Some were sprayed with pepper-spray, some are assaulted and abused. He described how some students had just sat there, terrified and blank-faced, but wanting to believe that it was all just a joke. See videos :

2007 Death of businessman Roy Scallan - castrated live, shot dead...suspect Mdudi Robson dies in cell porportedly of suicide - case not properly investigated.
Suspect Mdudi Robson commits suicide at Walmer police cells - March 2 2007 - PORT ELIZABETH. Norman Silke of "Die Burger" newsburger in Port Elizabeth writes that Walmer police have closed their investigation into the gruesome death of local businessman Roy Scallan, 54, who was castrated while stile alive and then killed execution-style. In South Africa, witch-doctors often pay large amounts of cash for the genitals of such "alpha-male" community leaders. They make expensive medicine ("muti") from genitals. Mr Scallan had not only been a leading, well-liked businessman, but also was in the prime of his life.
Police senior uperintendent Hein Fourie, commander of the Walmer detective unit, said "police were convinced that his murderer was the suspect who has since committed suicide in the Walmer Police cells." Shortly after the Scanlan murder, police arrested the man, Mdudi Robson, 26, and his brother -- both had been former employees of Scallan.

2003 - 2008: Detained 'Boeremag' members abuse recorded in high-security SA prison: 12/03/2003 22:39 - Mr Michael Teshart du Toit, 43, who has been in detention for the past seven months under claims by the Mbeki regime that he belonged to the Boeremag organization which wanted to overthrow the government -- has contracted the liver disease Gilbert's Syndrome (often contracted from a dirty environment) while in detention in C-Max prison. Testifying in the Pretoria Regional Court, Mr du Toit said he needed urgent medical care. The syndrome causes the body to discharge too much bile and breaks down the blood platelets. His liver and spleen are enlarged and there are signs of liver prolapse, presumably caused by a lack of medical attention. Dr P H J Doussy, his medical practitioner, said the syndrome is found in "unfavourable environments, like prisons" and also worsened by tension is caused by environmental factors. The prosecutor, Advocate Dries van Rensburg, said the state would sent Du Toit to Pretoria Academic Hospital for medical observation for seven days before the bail application could continue. This has now been rescheduled to March 19.
Co-detainee Dr Johan (Lets) Pretorius, 56, of Mokopane (Potgietersrus), was monitoring Du Toit's condition in C-Max prison. None of these arrested Afrikaners have been charged with any formal offences in any court of law thus far. Another of Du Toit's physicians, Dr H P D van Wyk, said prison staff could not be trusted to monitor his condition. A request by Du Toit's brother André Tibert, 32, and Mr Jacobus Christoffel (Rooikoos) du Plessis, 43, for a bail application based on new evidence was however postponed. Du Plessis repeatedly called the investigating officers "cowards" before heavily armed police officials escorted him from the dock to the court cells below. All three accused have submitted sworn statements that they know nothing of the Boeremag which the Mbeki regime claims were planning a coup plot -- and also not members of the Israel Vision Religious Order. Although neither organization has been banned by the State as undesirable organization, the SA police is arresting a large number of Afrikaners on suspicision of belonging to these two groups. Other civil rights violations being perpetrated against these men: Du Toit also said in his statement to the court that a prison warder had found an eavesdropping device in Pretorius' cell. "We know we can't communicate with each other to discuss the case because we don't know if the police are listening in." "Nor do we know if the consulting rooms with our lawyers are bugged," Du Toit said in his statement. These men have been in detention at the high-

security prison for the past five plus years...
'State prosecution' has finally 'closed its case' - now it's the defence's turn... June 18 2007
Death sentence has already been passed on one innocent man: Herman Scheepers died from prison-incurred infection last month after suffering years of hell in filthy cells

Pretoria - Monday June 18 2007 -- After more than four years, the 'State' has finally closed its case in the Boeremag trial. However the incredible suffering of these accused Christian men won't be over for years. They have all consistently denied guilt of all 42 charges.
Thirteen of these 21 accused have been incarcerated in filthy, high-security jail cells and treated like convicted prisoners throughout that time -- including Herman van Rooyen and Rudi Gouws, who still are forced to attend their trial in shackles after escaping from the cells at the High Court and evading police for nine months before they were recaptured. All of these men suffered extensive torture, physical and mental, while in prison. They were tortured with sleep deprivation, excessive noise, underfeeding, filthy conditions and physical beatings by the investigating police but also their jailers and fellow prisoners. Indeed this torture became so dangerous to their health that their long-time, dedicated attorney, Paul Kruger of Pretoria, travelled to the Netherlands to personally file their official statements about this maltreatment in prison with Amnesty International in Amsterdam. However this so-called 'human rights' organisation which supposedly fights for the rights of all prisoners worldwide, has thus far completely ignored the plight of these incarcerated Boer-Afrikaners -- indeed they did not even have the basic courtesy to respond to the petition, filed in 2003.

Death sentence for the innocent Boer Herman Scheepers:
One of the Boeremag-21, Herman Scheepers -- a hale and healthy Boer before he was dumped in a C-Max prison cell, last month died of a virus infection contracted in jail. This is not surprising: according to their Amnesty International statements their prison cells frequently filled up with the backed-up, infectious sewage from the prison's overflowing sewage plant. Their families also are suffering greatly from the loss of their wage-earners: while one accused was married shortly after the trial started, six have since been divorced. The South African taxpayer also directly supports all the expenses of this trial: All the accused have legal aid assistance, and the trial already costs the Legal Aid Board far over R11-million ($1,1-million) to date.
the defence advocates have already indicated that they intended launching an application for their clients' discharge on some of the 42 charges against them.

To get out of prison, THEY HAVE TO PROVE THAT THEY ARE INNOCENT - THE STATE DOES NOT HAVE TO PROVE THAT THEY ARE GUILTY...
The trial record consists of more than 28,000 pages and these innocent Boers and their defence councils will have to prove the inaccuracy of each paragraph on these 28,000 pages... The trial started in Pretoria's Palace of Justice amidst great public interest and extremely tight security measures over four years ago, with these family men shuffling into court clapped in chains each day as if they already were convicted criminals... It has since moved to the Pretoria High Court building with only a few family members and the occasional journalist attending. There's almost no news coverage now. Almost 160 witnesses have 'testified' for the state, including a highly-paid police spy who claimed that he had 'infiltrated' the inner circle of the Boeremag. Most of the evidence is circumstantial and a lot of hear-say, bar-gossip is also being presented as 'evidence...'

20080926 Van Sitters family chased by police chopper, roughly arrested for non-existent 'murder'of black maid
Afrikaners Frans van Sitters, 53, son Jean, 16 and his friend Michelle Cloete were terrified when they suddenly found themselves being chased by a police helicopter on the road between Brandfort and Theunissen. In a deeply strange incident the Afrikaner man and the two children with him were were hunted down by police chopper, then brutally arrested by a large group of armed cops. The boy was assaulted and threatened that they would kick in his rib-cage -- and then the family was accused of a murder which actually had never happened. And all this happened on the Van Sittert boy's birthday.Apparently Van Sittert had bought second-hand window-frames from a destitute man along the road. This was reported to local police by two children who claimed the Afrikaner had bought 'stolen goods'.Then this incident was somehow linked to the ACCIDENTAL death of a black maid back in Bloemfontein -- she'd fallen against a washing machine, hitting her nose, and her nose-bone had penetrated into her brain and she'd died. Nobody was present during this accident - however the local cops investigating this freak-accident somehow had been led to believe that the black woman had died in an armed robbery instead. They then linked the Van Sitters and Ms Cloete driving back home from Bloemfontein to the children's claims that they had just bought some 'stolen goods' from the roadside. And then all hell broke lose. Police superintendent Susan Moseki' investigates.

20080317 East Rand Ekurhuleni metropolitan police chief McBride: "I will arrange to have your wife raped, kids killed'..
March 17, 2008 - The Pretoria Regional Court has heard that East Rand/Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride - who is a senior ANC-member -- had intimidated one of his officers into not testifying against him in his drunken-driving trial, by telling his comrade that 'he would arrange for his wife to be raped and his children and pets murdered'.It is apparently quite routine for influential ANC-members like McBride to threaten and intimidate others in order to maintain the local ANC's power-base, according to this testimony.

20080601 Picture of McBride's cops shooting Ramaphosa squatter camp resident Qenesane Benjamin Hans and Rapport photographer Christiaan Kotze
May 31 2008 -RAMAPHOSA SQUATTER CAMP. This picture was taken at the very moment while the East Rand/Ekurhuleni metropolitan police had been ordered to shoot at a crowd at the Ramaphosa squatter camp by metro police chief Robert McBride. The incident was witnessed by many journalists and police officers. The pellets shattered the photographer's lens but this picture was taken just before that moment. The man in the red shirt in the foreground was the late Qenesane Benjamin Hans, a South African resident who lived at the Ramaphosa squatter camp. The policemen firing behind him belong to the Ekurhuleni police force - and they had just been ordered to fire by McBride on a crowd at Ramaphosa squatter camp.Kotze and Hans both were injured by rubber bullets and shotgun-pellets being fired in volleys fired from metropolitan-police guns just seconds after this photograph was taken and pellets had also shattered the camera-lens. The two injured men were taken to hospital in the same ambulance. Mr. Hans had suffered severe head wounds and succumbed in the ambulance, Mr. Kotze was treated and discharged. Kotze states that he had noticed that Mr Hans clearly had been an innocent bystander who really was just walking through the area and had not been involved in any 'xenophobic attacks'. Kotze had not noticed him amongst the rowdy crowd behind them before he and Kotze were shot. The entire incident is even more controversial because the officially 'suspended' metropolitan police chief Robert McBride had apparently arrived in the middle of these xenophobic attacks and intervened with the national SA Police's attempts to calm down the crowd -- by taking over command.Shortly thereafter, when a bottle was thrown at McBride from the crowd, orders were given to shoot at them - injuring Hans and Kotze, amongst others.McBride 's actions were so controversial because he had officially been placed on 'extended leave' pending the outcome of his trial for drunk-driving but had simply arrived and taken over control of the national police's riot-control units.

20080815 Robbery VICTIMS Jan & Millie Kotze, Meyersdal Alberton shot up by police team: car had 43 bullets
Aug 15 2008 -- MEYERSDAL, Alberton, South Africa. A large black gang invaded the house of white Afrikaner homeowners Jan & Millie Kotze in Meyersdal, Alberton. The gang tied up the couple's son Stefan (on the right) after viciously beating him, and then proceeded to gang-rape their daughter Janine. Jan and Millie had been away on holiday, and as it happens had just returned home while this robbery and vicious rape of their daughter still was in full swing inside... As the white couple drove into their own driveway, the black gang opened fire on them from the balcony of the double storey house. Jan rammed his car into reverse and raced out of the driveway as the left side of his vehicle was hit in a hail of bullets. As he did so, the cops, who had pitched up moments earlier, opened fire on him with R5 automatic rifles - claiming that they had mistaken the unarmed white man inside his Land Cruiser (filled with luggage) for armed black robbers. The Land Cruiser finally came to a halt about 200 metres from the house. "Inside the car, a male voice said 'Are you police or metro?' A lady was screaming inside the car. Then someone must have fallen onto the steering wheel, because [the hooter] went on for 15 minutes," said the witness. A policeman, processing the crime scene, said Jan's Toyota Land Cruiser was hit 43 times. Millie took five bullets, and Jan took ten. Miraculously, both survived but spent months in hospital recovering. And unsurprisingly, the entire robber gang escaped unharmed. Stefan is severely traumatised, but not as much as his sister Janine, who was beaten and gang-raped and is now taking antiretroviral drugs as a precaution against contracting HIV/AIDS. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2385100,00.html

20080626 SAPS captain Patrick Magonono, head of the Magalies smallholdings region north of Pretoria's CID, arrested for armed robberies with with colleagues

The head of the SAPS CID was arrested and charged with armed robbery in the Jphannesburg magistrate's court -- for carrying out a series of very violent armed robberies allegedly carried out with five other colleagues from the same branch in April. Their reign of terror allegedly had targetted both 'foreign blacks' as well as Afrikaner smallholder families lving in the Brits/Cullinan/Leeuwfontein/Kameeldoring area. Witnesses and victims positively identified them. Beeld journalist André Damons reported that six black SAPS-detectives, all ANCmembers, were arrested enmasse last week by members of the specialised crime-investigations unit of the Gauteng provincial police head-office, who had arrived in a fleet of unmarked police cars to arrest them at their police station.

Targetting foreigners, Afrikaners' homes in Magalies area:
The state prosecutor said that Magonono and his other five colleagues have already been positively identified by various state witnesses as the men who allegedly carried out armed raids on the homes of 'foreigners' in April.

20080626 June 25 2008 -- Protesting metrocops shot national police officers amongst crowded rush-hour traffic crowds with live ammo:

A group of municipal police officers had blockaded downtown Johannesburg at the M2 freeway ramps with Eloff Street -- and then started firing shots with their police handguns at the national police officers of the SAPS who asked them to please clear the highway, to let the workers go home. in spite of the huge number of motorists and pedestrians which were trapped in the downtown traffic melee caused by the illegal strike, these metro-cops had still fired back at the SAPS members with live ammo -- after the latter had been 'forced to fire rubber bullets at the metro police members who had blockaded the city, causing a traffic gridlock.' Seven metro police officers - three women and four men - were injured by SAPS rubber-bullets during the police action and charges are being investigated against some metro-cops of attempted murder. The metropolitan-cops caused the chaos as part of a wild-cat strike by the communists of the SA Municipal Workers Union who are complaning over ' salaries and nepotism '. The communists in SA have been promising to 'make the country ungovernable' with such strikes. Major roads and freeways were blocked, causing traffic havoc and thousands of local office workers were trapped inside their buildings, unable to fetch their children from school and go home. http://www.news24.com/News24/MyNews24/MyNews24/0,,2-2127-2336_2347257,00.html

Four burly cops threaten petite Afrikaner hairdresser in Kempton Park

20080222 Feb 22 2008 -- Afrikaner farmer Ettienne Bernard Terblanche, 40, was awarded damages in the amount of R603,701 plus court costs by the Pretoria High Court -- which the SA Police Service will have to pay him for a false arrest in 2005.The farmer was arrested and driven around so roughly by the then-commander of the Cumberland police station that he suffered serious back damage. And the commander then refused hospital treatment and sent him on transport to the Thabazimbi law court - where the charges were dropped at once. Terblanche had been arrested for killing a hippo -- even though he had obtained a legal permit from the Department of Environment beforehand to shoot an aggressive, rogue hippo which was attacking workers and damaging crops. He and his nephew had gone to shoot the animal at the riverside, but had only injured the animal. They traced the injured hippo to the middle of the river and his nephew had then shot it dead. They dragged the animal to his own farm and slaughtered it there. The Cumberland police showed up at the farm shortly thereafter and Terblanche had shown them the legal hunting permit to shoot this animal. Then police inspector M I Mogale -- who has died since then of natural causes -- had shown up and accused Terblanche of destroying a fence (on his own farm) in order to drag the animal through it.

Terblanche was arrested very roughly by a large police force -- his legal rifle was confiscated, together with his boat and tractor, as well as the meat - which had been earmarked for distribution among the workers. Mogale himself had dumped the farmer into the back of a police van and then had driven him 'very roughly' to the police station - in fact at such a high speed that the farmer was dropped several times onto the floor and had hit his head against the roof of the van. During this drive his back was injured so badly that he was unable to walk to the police station. Mogale had then dragged him to the police station instead and dumped him on the floor in front of the charge counter. Mr Terblanche had lain there in great pain until his wife showed up - and her requests to take him to hospital were denied. Terblanche then was dumped back into the police van in full view of many onlookers and friends from an auditor's firm and taken to Thabazimbi magistrate's court, still suffering incredible pain enroute. At the court, he again had to be physically carried into court by the police constables - he could not walk.At the law court, he was able to prove that he had a license to shoot the rogue animal and the charges against him were the immediately withdrawn. After his ordeal required extensive treatment and bedrest for six weeks at the farm - medical reports submitted to the court showed that his spine had been knocked out of allignment because of the falls sustained during the drive.
  • Judge Visser ruled that the police officer Mogale's treatment of the Afrikaner farmer had been 'exceedingly brutal and unwarranted'.
'It can be deduced from the police officer's behaviour throughout the arrest that Mogale had had 'an inappropriate personal motive, and it was unforgiveable that he had refused an ambulance and refused to take the injured farmer to hospital. "Mr Terblanche was robbed illegally of his freedom for five hours, was driven around under life-threatening circumstances and also, no apologies nor explanations were ever given to him by the police,' the judge ruled when awarding the cash amount. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2275251,00.html

20071107 Benoni motorist Cecil Hunter, 31, kicked, beaten, abused robbed by Benoni police

Nov 7 2007 -- BENONI. Local motorist Cecil Hunter, 31, says he was handcuffed, repeatedly sprayed with pepper spray, kicked, beaten, jailed over the weekend and robbed by two Benoni police officers -- for allegedly going the wrong way down a one-way street - which he denied he did. When jailed in the Benoni police station holding cells he was beaten some more, robbed and deeply humiliated. He denied that he broke any traffic laws but said while he was beaten and taunted in jail, he did curse his police jailers - it was the only defence he had left he said. " It was if they wanted to show they were in charge. "They taunted: 'now you are brave, shitting in your pants...' Hunter said: "I'm half ashamed about it, but they beat me until my bladder and everything was empty. Then they said to me: 'Now you're brave, shitting in your pants'." Hunter was pulled off the road in the early hours of Friday by police from Benoni, for allegedly driving his car against the traffic. He stopped and one of the police officers apparently asked him what he was going to do "about the situation". Hunter denied doing anything wrong and asked the police, a man and a woman, for identification. He claims that they refused to show him any. "The man grabbed me and the woman sprayed me four or five times with pepper spray. "I couldn't see and they cuffed my hands behind my back. I felt them taking my wallet out of my pocket and started screaming. I did resist the arrest, yes, I thought I was being robbed instead," he said. While he was in the back of the police van, Hunter wriggled his hands through under his feet and managed to phone his girlfriend. He then was assaulted, humiliated and robbed of his cash at Benoni police station. His wrists were still raw where the handcuffs had cut into him when he was interviewed. The swelling around his eye had subsided, but it was still bloodshot and he had bruises everywhere. He had asked for medical treatment in the cells and it had been refused. "I think they'd hoped that I would bribe them, but then I made a fuss. They took every note and coin out of my wallet and just left me my cards. "I was very, very angry and humiliated. They robbed me and made me feel inferior. It was if they wanted to show they were in charge. "I'm not going to lie: I shouted and swore at them (after the arrest), but that was all I had left." Hunter appeared without being charged for anything in the Benoni court on Friday, released on his own cognisance and the case was postponed. The court records claimed he was arrested for 'resisting arrest' - not a word about the alleged traffic violation.... http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2216328,00.html

2003 - 693 PEOPLE DIED FROM POLICE ACTION- up by 31.3% since last year.
PROBES AGAINST SA COPS SOARED BY 32,4% - - June 3, 2004 - The number of REPORTED complaints against members of the SA Police Service received by the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) in the 2003/04 financial year increased by 32,4 percent, ICD investigations manager Tommy Tshabalala said. Briefing the National Assembly's safety and security committee, he said the ICD probed 5,882 complaints against police officers between April 1 last year and March 31 this year, compared to the same period in 2002/03, when 4,443 complaints were received. It was noted that the majority of SAPS members involved in shootings were Africans (67%) ethno-Euros 18%; mixed-race 9% and Asians 6%.

  • 693 people died in SA police custody or police action: -
  • 138 people died in police custody and 95% were males:

Of all these police-action-deaths, 47 percent took place at the scene of a crime or during arrest, 29 percent at a hospital or clinic, and 20 percent in police cells. 1,473 serious criminal offences by SA cops probed - 47% more...: There was also a substantial 47 percent increase in reports of serious criminal offences allegedly committed by SAPS members (a total of 1,473 cases).

These were the cases reported by the public - and in a phenomenon also seen among rape victims, where an estimated 50% of rapes are never reported; it's also not known how many complaints about police misbehaviour actually remain unreported by an increasingly distrustful public. Reported incidents of alleged police misconduct increased by 27.6 percent to a total of 3,716 cases, he said. Most of the reported officers involved were constables (76 percent), followed by inspectors (17 percent), and sergeants (four percent), Tshabalala said.

SA's police image battered by torture - 2007
DEC.10 2997 -- Brutal torture of people in police and military custody has raised major global concerns about South Africa's ability to implement its legal international and national human rights obligations. Amnesty International (AI), the premier international human rights organisation, says it continues to receive corroborated evidence of abuses that include the use of electric shocks, suffocation, forced painful postures, suspension from moving vehicles and helicopters, and severe and prolonged beatings.

"There are clusters of police stations around the country where repeated incidences of torture are reported," says Mary Rayner, a researcher for Amnesty International's Africa programme in London. "As recently as September, we received a report that the Brixton Murder and Robbery Unit acts with impunity. There are at least 20 to 30 severe cases of torture a year that are reported, but there are many more incidents that are not reported."

Rayner, part of an AI delegation who visited South Africa in October to investigate torture, says there appears to be a lack of seriousness on the part of authorities in dealing with this matter. "This failure, combined with the deficient resources for monitoring bodies like the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), contribute to the impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators.
Duxita Mistry, senior researcher for the Institute for Human Rights and Criminal Justice Studies, said: "The ICD is under-resourced, and doesn't have the capacity to monitor torture. They are overwhelmed just by deaths in police custody, they can't even cope with that. "Bodies like the civilian Secretariat for Safety and Security are also an oversight mechanism, but they are barely visible and have really fizzled out. They don't have enough investigators, their budgets are too small, and they don't have enough money for research or to have an office in every province. "The community policing forums would have been another vehicle to monitor police brutality and torture but the public seems to have lost interest in them," Mistry adds. Gareth Newham, a criminal-justice policy researcher for the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation, agrees with AI's concerns about human rights abuses. "The torture policy that is in place at the moment is very bureaucratic," he says, "and what tends to happen is that police opt to torture suspects outside of the station's precincts. You find station commanders who aren't too concerned about complaints of police torture or brutality." Newham suggests that the most effective way to fight abuses would be to have an internal mechanism, such as a central database, in place where individuals or units who have a high number of complaints are investigated.

2002 - SA Police use "most dehumanising torture imaginable" -- report by "Campaign Against Torture"
November 6 2002- By Graeme Hosken -Suspects in police holding cells in Durban were found tortured 73% of the time - and one arrested man was beaten to death with an iron bar at Chatsworth police holding cells in Durban, according the human rights organisation Campaign Against Torture. Their 23 monitors this year carried out 149 interviews of suspects in Durban area police holding cells - and found that 86 of the 149 arrestees questioned had been tortured. Arrested people are sometimes "assaulted, kneecapped, bitten by dogs, suffocated and subjected to other forms of unimaginably inhumane, violent abuse, such as police batons inserted into their anuses during interrogation."Campaign Against Torture's report states that the SA police had stonewalled the monitoring processs for two years by holding up 23 accreditation badges for its monitors -- and now try to "sweep the report under the carpet" and also are now preventing the organisation from seeing any more arrestees in police cells until the police have perused this report.

Post-1994 black SA cops: raised in the ANC's culture of violence: ANC exiles were tortured, raped in exile camps:

For decades, members of the ANC have been raised in a culture of violence, as described in the article below. Psychological studies carried out in 2007 among Ugandan refugees by world-reknown psychologists found that those refugees who had been most brutalised and traumatised by that country's ongoing civil war, showed that the more traumatised people were, the much likely they were to choose violence to solve any conflict-situations. Peaceful solutions are not often found in the vocabulary of violence-traumatised people.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camp Quatro, the ANC terror-camp. This article below summarising these events was written by Paul Trewhela in "Searchlight South Africa" No.5 in July 1990. The stories of most of the women being raped on a daily basis. Many of these women still fear to speak up today, in 2008.

INSIDE QUADRO ANC-CAMP IN ANGOLA:
The first-hand testimony by former combatants of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) about the cruel ANC prison regime are an event in South African history. Never before has such concentrated factual evidence been presented about the inner nature of the ANC and its eminence grise, the South African Communist Party. However, many of the women who suffered under this cruel regimen, fear to speak up even now.

If people wish to understand the current operations carried out by the SA Police who are invariably now have to be signed-up members of the ruling ANC if they want jobs, they must look the the culture of violence in which they had been raised - they know no other way to solve conflicts except violence:

Dutch-German author threatened over black housing project

Black South Africans' hatred of white foreigners puts R62-m Cape housing project at risk...

Nov 12 2008 - Hatred and distrust of two foreign-born white donors/volunteers is placing a R62-million housing project in a township outside Kommetjie near Cape Town at risk -- after a group of black South African residents said they didn't want the project to receive donor money from "makwerekwere". (foreigners).

Two weeks ago about 200 people living in shacks in the small Masiphumelele settlement between Fish Hoek and Cape Point attacked and stabbed and stoned the chairman of the non-profit housing group Amakhaya Ngoku, Themvinkosi Kitchen.

The residents attacked the chairman because they oppose the building project even though it's costing them nothing.

The black residents also threatened the Dutch-born fundraiser, Dr Lutz van Dijk because he is a foreign-born white man, ( makwerekwere) who was originally from Europe. (Dr van Dijk was born in Berlin in 1955 and is a Dutch/German citizen.)

One of the main donors of the project, Lord Irvine Laidlaw - a Scottish-born businessman rated one of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom -- is puzzled at the "negative" feedback from the provincial housing department after he donated about R9-million to build brick houses for residents of Masiphumelele, near Noordhoek.

Monaco resident Lord Irvine Laidlaw whose fortune is estimated at £730-million (about R5,9bn) has accused the department of turning a blind eye to the generosity of foreign donors.Laidlaw said the proposed development had been on hold for over a year because the department would not "give a signature". Laidlaw was approached by Van Dijk on behalf of the housing organisation, Amakhaya ngoku, to fund the project.

Orphanage director Van Dijk wrote book about history of gays under Nazi rule:

Van Dijk, a youth-literature writer who also wrote a book entitled "Homo's onder het hakenkruis 1933-1945", about gays during the Nazi-era in Europe, (left book cover) came to South Africa to work for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission seven years ago. He was previously employed at the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam. He decided to settle in the country and became the director of an orphanage in Masiphumelele. He receives no payment from Amakhaya Ngoku and will make no money out of the housing project.

Don't trust that white Dutch-born foreigner...
Laidlaw has a special interest in the Western Cape because he owns an early 20th century house in Noordhoek where he has holidayed for up to three months a year since 2005.Dr van Dijk has been branded by locals opposing to the housing development as a "kwerekwere" and they don't trust him: "That man is a foreigner and he's forcing us to move. We don't want to live in flats -- we want houses and we don't want Lutz's money because he is a corrupt foreigner who doesn't belong in South Africa," said Simon Kiti, spokesperson for the group of residents opposed to the development.

"We don't want their money. We don't want money from the private sector. We want the government to come and build us houses -- the ANC is on our side on this issue and said we don't have to move," he said. Kiti claims to represent 152 families, all members of the ANC, who refuse to move.

Amakhaya Ngoku (meaning "homes now") was formed in 2006 by local residents after a fire destroyed about 400 shacks, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless.

After months of consultations and meetings residents agreed the shortage of land made free-standing houses impossible and settled for 352 sectional title flats. The project will offer residents a rent-to-buy scheme that allows them to rent their homes for four years at R400 a month, after which they can buy and own them.

Last week the chair of Amakhaya Ngoku, Themvinkosi Kitchen, was stabbed and stoned by residents opposed to the building project.
  • Amakhaya Ngoku is under immense pressure to start construction this week to fulfil the funding conditions of some of its 20 major international sponsors. Foreign donations are contributing more than R35-million to the project and failure to start building soon could put some of this money at risk, as well as increase building costs, the Mail and Guardian newspaper reports from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Kiti also objected to foreign nationals living in the temporary site to which Masiphumelele inhabitants have been relocated while construction is under way.

"We will not move from the school site [the area earmarked for the development] because some kwerekwere tells us to move. Why are foreigners the beneficiaries of houses when they don't even belong in South Africa? Those people come here with their corruption and drug money using bribes. Only government should build houses," Kiti said.

The divisions within the community started after the city council identified 23 families set to receive flats on the school site as already having benefited from subsidised houses elsewhere. The families were told they couldn't receive subsidies twice and their names were removed from the list.

"When that happened, suddenly they started with all their other complaints against the project. Suddenly they didn't want flats, but wanted houses. Now they're jumping on this kwerekwere-wagon and the ANC leadership are not stopping them causing this problem to escalate," said Bulelwa Jafta, secretary of Amakhaya Ngoku.

Officials from local construction company Jolinde Construction tried to talk to Kiti and a group of about 15 men on Monday morning to try to convince them to vacate the land.
"You need a court interdict to come and stand here. This land is ours and we will not move. Go away," Kiti said. "This is not the old South Africa where whites can say 'go' and then we jump. Come back when you have a court order. The ANC said we're entitled to stay here."

Later that day Jolinde started clearing and fencing off the land around those families who refused to move. On Tuesday night the tyres of all the big construction vehicles were slashed, causing damage estimated at R40 000. On Wednesday the rest of the defiant community vowed to go ahead with the project, even though some shacks are still standing on the site.

Provincial ANC chair Mcebisi Skwatsha said the problem in Masiphumelele stems from the divisions within the ANC. "We need to address this issue urgently. If these people are discriminating against other people or foreigners, they're going to be very disappointed," Skwatsha said, promising to intervene speedily.

It took Amakhaya Ngoku two years to secure the land and get the go-ahead for the project. Earlier this year government pledged R27,5-million for the project.

  • The shortfall was made up by donations from England, Germany, Holland and Australia, as well as from South African individuals. By far the smallest amount came from South Africans.

At a 'gratitude ceremony' held this week at the nearby temporary relocation area for residents, mayor Helen Zille, who spoke in isiXhosa amid loud cheers and ululation from the community, said there comes a time when one can talk no more but has to start doing.

"We can't keep on talking about this development. Two years was long enough. It's now time for building. Amakhaya Ngoku! Not Amakhaya Landelayo! [subsequent houses, houses coming afterwards]".

It is believed they were the same young men who had already attacked the elderly Afrikaner widow at her smallholding several months earlier. Her daughter said her parents had lived on the farm, Tertia, about 30km outside Montague, their entire married lives since 1960 - and had raised their two children there. On Nov 3 2008, some 2,000 Afrikaner smallholders of Kameeldrift and Cullinan held a peaceful protest march from their local Dutch-Reformed church to the two local police stations north of Pretoria, warning that they were being targetted by gangs intent on genocide'. They demanded the removal of local police commander Edwin Lelaka for incompetence... But who is really behind these genocidal attacks?

IS IT INCOMPETENCE ... OR SOMETHING MORE SINISTER?
On June 26 2008, SAPS captain Patrick Magonono, head of the Magalies smallholdings region north of Pretoria's CID, was arrested for armed robberies with five colleagues of the same unit in April. Their reign of terror targetted both 'foreign blacks' as well as many Afrikaner smallholder families living in the Magalies/Brits/Cullinan/Leeuwfontein/Kameeldoring areas around greater Pretoria. Witnesses and victims positively identified them. Beeld journalist André Damons reported that the six black SAPS-detectives, all ANC members, were arrested enmasse by members of the specialised crime-investigations unit of the Gauteng provincial police head-office, who had swooped down on them in a fleet of unmarked police cars to arrest them at their own police station. The state prosecutor said that Magonono and his other five colleagues have already been positively identified by various state witnesses as the men who allegedly carried out armed raids on the homes of 'foreigners' in April. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2347984,00.html

AFRIKANERS DENIED POLITICAL ASYLUM: NO PLACE TO FLEE TO
The two American-born children of Mrs Carol Herbst, a recently returned Afrikaner asylum-seeker from the USA, were among the targets in a violent armed robbery attack in Delmas in April 2008, during which Mrs Herbst' brother-in-law Jimmy Watson was gunned down at the local Kentucky-Fried-Chicken outlet. The children, Derian, 6, and Tegan, 3, were born in the US while the Herbst couple awaited asylum-procedures for six years. She said the US 'can now see the kind of country they have forced our family to return to.' White South Africans - but especially Afrikaners -- applying for visas at the US embassy in South Africa also report that they are invariably being treated very rudely by black staffers there and are often being rejected for legal emigration to the USA in spite of their often excellent qualifications. Nov 10 2008 -- Pretoria High Court - two black men, Frans Mthabesita, 26, and Patric Sithole, 36, were sentenced to a lifetime in prison for murdering BMW branch manger Manie Maritz. Maritz was gunned down in an ambush on 15 July 2007 at their rural-setting home in Constantia Park, Pretoria. Acting judge Vivian Tlhapi said 'nothing can be so cruel as to be attacked by two armed men when returning home and then be murdered in cold blood.' The only thing robbed was a cellphone which was found discarded by police. "To murder just for a cellphone is outrageous,' the judge said. "Citizens of our country are besieged in a tsunami of murders, armed house robberies and rapes. In most of these cases, these crimes are committed when people are in the privacy of their homes. This dangerous situation has an effect on all the citizens, it does not matter who you are, what your race or religion might be'. The men were also sentenced to a six-month simultaneous prison sentence for assaulting Maritz' handicapped daughter. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2424109,00.html

Pictured here is Mrs Sarah Edwards, 25 year old stepdaughter of Mr Hewitt. This is the second armed attack within two weeks in this rural area: Well-known dairy farmer Loffie van der Gryp, 48, was murdered here on October 30 2008 at the Sterkfontein dairy. Mrs Edwards said she saw two black men, one with a handgun, the other in a black balaclava - walking into the restaurant of the lodge at around 10.00. Mr Hewitt was seated at a table with Mr Roberts and three other guests, and six guests were in the adjacent bar at the time. Her 21-month-old baby Louise was asleep in her carrycot next to her and her husband seated at another table. The armed attackers were clearly targetting for the owner: firing one shot straight at the unarmed Hewitt where he was seated in his chair at another table. "He turned his face away and the bullet hit him in the left cheek,' said Mrs Edwards. Guests fled in all directions while some fell flat to the floor, she said. In the melee her husband Wally, 46, grabbed their babygirl and fled outside while the attackers continued to fire a volley of shots towards the fleeing guests. Her mom Karen Hewitt ran upstairss to alert the security services and the ambulance from another telephone with Mr Roberts short on her heels, she said. The attackers then fired towards Mrs Hewitt and Roberts -- hitting the latter in a hand. "While he collapsed, they fired another shot at him, and that bullet hit a hip,' she said. The robbers tore the cash-register from the wall, grabbed Mrs Hewitt's handbag and fled. They could have looted the whole place: she said the amount of cash in the cash register was unknown - but they also totally ignored the cash-tips visible inside glasses on the counters.Mr Hewitt is at Roodepoort's Wilgeheuwel hospital and requires plastic surgery to his face. Mr Roberts is in 'serious but stable' condition at Leratong hospital, she said. Police captain Paula Terblanche said no-one was arrested for either of the two armed attacks. The investigating officer is inspector Joe Mogoanye tel. 0 082 337 1450. Ms Annelie Barkema of the SATSA tourism association immediately announced plans to 'work with the police to prevent further attacks in the rural Broederstroom- and Muldersdrift-region.' http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2426160,00.html

20081111 Johan Maritz, young family attacked, Knoppieslaagte smallholding, Centurion - wife's rape foiled, nothing looted ...Distraught family with 5-yr-old daughter forced to wait for more than 13 hours before police responded to their calls for help. Nov 11 2008 - Johan Maritz and his family were asleep in their Knoppieslaagte home near Centurion, when they were attacked by a group of armed black men. The first call for help to the police's 10111 emergency centre was made by Monitor Net at 5.30am. Friends describing the attack said Maritz woke up to his girlfriend Ursula Bekker's screams of agony. Bekker had been awakened earlier by their dogs barking and had gone downstairs to find out what was disturbing them.As she walked downstairs she saw a man opening a window. Grabbing a pool cue, Bekker hit his arm before she was overpowered by his two accomplices, who had forced open the front door. Pushing her to the ground, one of the men stabbed Bekker in the back of the head. Fighting back, she was kicked and beaten to the ground, where the attackers tore off her nightdress. It is believed the men stopped their assault when Maritz came running downstairs. As one of the robbers, armed with a panga, chopped at Maritz's arm and hand, Bekker pushed her way past the attackers and ran to her daughter Angelique, 5, who was crying in her bed. One of the attackers, who saw the woman flee, ran after her, hitting her as she lay on top of Angelique while trying to protect her. Bekker said she pleaded with the man not to hurt them. "I was crying. I asked him to leave Angelique alone and to take me. I pleaded with him not to rape or hurt us, but he just laughed," she said. Bekker said that when one of the other robbers called to her attacker, the man left the room. "I did not know what was happening. I picked up Angelique, ran to the window and jumped." Police spokeswoman Director Sally de Beer said: "If the allegations are true, then it is absolutely shocking and must be investigated as a priority."Superintendent Eugene Opperman said an investigation would be launched. Mr Maritz suffered panga-cuts to his head and arm. He 's in serious condition at hospital. There's no report that anything was stolen. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?from=rss_South%20Africa&set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=vn20081113051315145C225768

KAMEELDRIFT SMALLHOLDERS SAY IT'S A GENOCIDE TARGETTING AFRIKANERS:
November 2 2008 -- Kameeldrift 's besieged smallholders said during their second emergency meeting within just 4 months this weekend that the SA Police was failing to protect them from the great many armed attacks by huge, armed gangs which target the Afrikaner whites inside their homes for murder and rape - usually stealing very little of value. They say it's a genocide - a 'volksmoord'.

Click here for the thumbnail gallery of assaulted and murdered Afrikaners in 2008:

These Kameeldrift Afrikaners are not imagining things either: these genocidal attacks have in fact been drawing a great deal of international attention, for instance two Flemish parliamentarians raised the issue just recently in their parliament -- and demanded that all the Belgian government's development-aid funding to the ANC-regime had to be frozen until all this violence and chaos ended in SA and the ANC-regime brought back the country's constitutional rule of law.

Unrepresented Nations' and Peoples' Organisation issued a unanimous condemnation of the great many armed attacks against Afrikaners at their farms and homes. This powerful international lobby for the rights of small minorities in May also unanimously admitted the Afrikaner opposition party Freedom Front Plus as their 72nd member, giving Afrikaners an important international platform for the first time since they lost their independence to the British colonial forces in 1902...

It's a genocide and it's going to get worse -- says the world's top expert:
Also, the world's top expert on genocide, Dr Gregory Stanton of "Genocide Watch" has also been monitoring the situation ever since he issued his first warning in 2002 that the Boers were facing a 'secret genocide'.
